Practical Learning for Real Scientific Challenges

Roper TCL supports scientists, scientific leaders, laboratory teams, and organisations seeking to build lasting capabilities in toxicology, safety assessment, regulatory science, and New Approach Methodologies (NAMs).

Led by Clive Roper, every training draws on more than 35 years of his scientific, operational, and leadership experience. Training and mentoring may address a specific technical topic, support a new capability or service, close a knowledge gap, or prepare a team for changing scientific and regulatory expectations.

Training Tailored to Your Priorities

Content can be adapted to the scientific background, experience, responsibilities, and objectives of the participants. Topics may include:

  • Principles of toxicology, product safety, and toxicological risk assessment

  • In vitro toxicology, study design, data interpretation, and weight-of-evidence thinking

  • Dermal absorption, skin toxicology, and respiratory or inhalation toxicology

  • NAMs, organ-on-a-chip technologies, microphysiological systems, organoids, and complex in vitro models

  • Defining context of use and evaluating whether a model or method is fit for purpose

  • Regulatory science and the effective communication of scientific evidence

  • Experimental reproducibility, quality, and transparent reporting

  • Scientific writing, presentations, and peer review

  • Scientific leadership, professional development, and effective collaboration

Flexible Training Formats

Roper TCL offers five flexible training formats:

  • Technical sessions. Concise sessions addressing a clearly defined topic, method, or current challenge

  • Interactive workshops. Facilitated learning using discussion, practical examples, exercises, and participant questions

  • Multi-session development programmes. A structured series that builds knowledge over time and allows participants to apply learning between sessions

  • Project-based learning. Training built around a live study, service, technology, or internal question so the organisation advances real work while expanding knowledge and developing capabilities

  • Conference and professional education. Lectures, presentations, and panel contributions for scientific and industry audiences

Individual Mentoring & Professional Development

Roper TCL provides one-to-one mentoring specific to the individual’s experience, goals, and working environment. Clive offers an independent perspective and a supportive approach, helping people think through decisions, strengthen their own judgement, and move forward with confidence.

Mentoring areas include:

  • Early-career toxicologists and scientists developing technical depth and professional confidence

  • Scientists moving into project management, people management, or leadership roles

  • Professionals seeking a broader strategic, scientific, or regulatory perspective

  • Subject matter experts strengthening communication and influence

  • Leaders navigating scientific change, new responsibilities, or complex stakeholder relationships

  • Organisations developing internal experts, future leaders, or succession capability

Training & Organisational Capability Development

Training and facilitated discussions allow teams to build a shared scientific understanding and work together more effectively. This is particularly valuable when introducing a new capability, expanding a laboratory service, integrating NAMs, preparing for greater client or regulatory interaction, or developing future scientific leaders. Roper TCL works with organisations to define the desired outcomes, understand current capabilities and identify where training or mentoring will have the greatest value. When the challenges also involve workflows, quality systems, service delivery, or broader organisational change, support can be coordinated with Roper TCL’s Continuous Improvement Services. - Add link to Continuous Improvement Services page

Discuss Your Training Needs

Direct, Collaborative Learning Experience

Participants work directly with Clive and benefit from practical examples and lessons learned from his career in toxicology, laboratory science, product safety, scientific leadership, consulting, and international collaboration.

The learning environment is open, candid, and interactive. Participants are encouraged to ask questions, discuss uncertainty, and connect the material to the scientific and professional situations they encounter in their own work.

The objective is not simply to deliver information. It is to help people apply what they learn, develop sound scientific judgement, and become more capable of addressing the next challenge independently.

What Participants & Organisations Gain

  • Stronger technical understanding and more confident scientific decision making

  • Greater ability to critically evaluate evidence, methods, and emerging technologies

  • More confidence in addressing complex questions and challenging assumptions constructively

  • Knowledge and capability that remain within the team after the engagement

  • A practical development pathway aligned with individu
